What Good Are the Arts?

The title for this workshop is borrowed from a book by John Carey where he discusses what is a work of art. We are going to look at some images and examine our ideas about art and re-visit perennial questions like :

• what is the value of art?

• who decides what good art is?

• is art important?

• popularity v quality

In discussing those questions we will create many more new questions.
